Open up Adobe Bridge. 

Insert the camera's SD card. 

Plug in your external drive. 

On Bridge, go to File > Get Photos from Camera 

 

Make sure to select 'Advanced Dialog' on the bottom left. 

 

Select the photos you want to import in. 

Choose the location the photos should be stored in. This should be a folder in your Documents folder. 

Add a custom name and apply metadata. 

Go through all the meta information available to you.

Back up the photos on your external hard drive. 

Right click > Open With > Adobe Photoshop.
